I have stumbled upon what appears to be a "painting on the back of glass" - It is a country landscape signed "Hewlett 41" - the size with frame is approximately 15" x 20" - can anyone tell me if this may be the same Hewlett? I can attach a photo if you respond to my e-mail at jplante22@yahoo.com - thanks - JP

hi, hope you get to see this sometime, good work by the way collecting this info.
JMH was my Great Grandfather on the Rogers side.
I've been finding more info on various buildings in the NY area.
1905-06 T Square club twelfth annual exhibition catalog has the winning design drawing for the brooklyn masonic temple.
the 1909 T Square club catalog has two photos of the interior of a residence for E.S. Harkness in New London, CT.
in both cases Hull has been ommited from the firm name.

Doug, please send me your email. I wrote a bio of JMH that is in the 2009 edition of the Social Register. Several years ago I emailed the SR to ask what they knew about Estelle, when they finally got back to me they asked if I like to do something on JMH. Did that and I can email it to you. Also, this is what they said about Estelle. Daughter of M&M Harrie Oscar Rodgers (E. Lillian Funston) of 422 W. Chelten Ave., Germantown, PA. Her father was an oilman. She was first married in May(?) 1908 to James B. Wilbur Jr. and according to their wedding announcement they were to reside in Wichita, Kansas. They were last listed as a couple in the 1923 Chicago Social Reg., at 7 Forest, New Britain, CT. By the following year she was listed as single, still in New Britain. On July 8, 1924 she was married to JMH. David Hewlett's age or birth date does not appear anywhere in our records. However, he is first reported in 1932 as a junior (between 14-20) and first given as an adult (over 20) in 1940. Makes him approximately five in 1923. I think a cousin remembers visiting JMH and Estelle in Doylestown and of course they must have lived a Briarwood Crossing in Lawrence which house JMH built for them. Lesea

There are references in this text to collaborations between Hewlett and Charles Basing. Can anyone tell me more about the latter artist? He was born in Ballarat Australia (where I am writing from) but nothing is know about him in his home town.

Sorry, I don't look at this web site much. JMH was my Grandfather. I know he worked with Charles Basing. The Architectural League in NYC might have something about his work and maybe a bio. The Architectural League put out a regular yearbook, I found a painting by Basing while looking through the yearbooks for JMH stuff. Anglesea Newman
